Vernetta LaVaughn Smock
April 5, 1953 - April 28, 2020
Vernetta LaVaughn Smock, age 67 of Monroe, MI passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday April 28, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 5, 1953 in Monroe, Vernetta was the daughter of the late Vernon and Garnetta (Hopkins) Wehner. Through the years, Vernetta held jobs at the Salvation Army and Alcoholics Anonymous of Monroe where her support and care for others was shown.
In her spare time, she found joy in dancing, playing cards, and gardening. Some of her favorite card games included euchre, poker, and pinochle. Her love for veggies could be seen in her garden and her love for flowers was evident for she looked forward to the bloom and planting of her favorite flowers around her home. Above all else, Vernetta valued time spent with her family and friends. Her presence will forever be missed and cherished but never forgotten.
To cherish her memory, she leaves a son: Charles Smock of Monroe; a daughter: Rhonda (John) Casell of Monroe; a brother: Chris (Tracey) Wehner of Luna Pier, MI; a sister: Annette (Doug) Scznsny of Ida, MI; as well as five grandchildren: Derek (Gabrielle) Anteau, Chelsey (Eric) Anteau, Ryan (Samantha) Anteau, Jordan (Stephanie) Baehr, and Evan Smock. Vernetta will be deeply missed by nine great-grandchildren as well.
Vernetta was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Dennis Wehner; and a sister: Cheryl (Wehner) Ertman.
In accordance with Vernetta's wishes, cremation will take place. Due to current restrictions with the global health crisis, the family has opted for a celebration of life service to honor Vernetta's life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has politely asked to consider directing memorial contributions to the funeral home to help with the funeral expenses.
