Ruth M. Burt
February 9, 1928 - June 10, 2020
Ruth Marie Burt, age 92 of Monroe, passed away the afternoon of Wednesday June 10, 2020 at Wellsprings Lutheran Services.
Ruth was born February 9, 1928 in Monroe, MI to the late Urban I. and Cecilia (Miller) Hoffman. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy before meeting the love of her life, Howard E. Burt. The two of them wed on June 10, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Howard passed away in 2013. The two of them are now together again, and Ruth passing away on their 70th anniversary makes for a very special reunion.
Ruth worked at AAA of Michigan as a secretary in her earlier years, before leaving the workforce to care for her husband and children. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1138 Auxiliary. After suffering a debilitating stroke at the age of 38, Ruth fought bravely to regain her ability to walk and communicate. First as therapy, then as a passionate hobby, Ruth spent hours creating beautiful needlepoint pieces which she would gift to friends and family. Above all else, Ruth loved spending time with her family and friends, particularly her grandchildren. Her wonderful smile and cheerful attitude made her a favorite of the residents and staff at the Lutheran Home, where she resided the past eight years and was affectionately called Ruthie.
Family and friends may visit from 3pm-8pm on Monday June 15, 2020 at Rupp Funeral Home. Ruth will lie in-state at 12noon on Tuesday June 16, 2020 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, where a funeral Mass will be held at 1pm. Interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
To cherish her memory, Ruth leaves three sons: Michael (Mitzi Palms-Burt) Burt of St. Clair Shores, MI, Bruce (Julie) Burt of Plymouth, MI, and Randy (Lisa) Burt of Germantown Hills, IL; two daughters: Elise (Robert) Kabchef of Visalia, CA and Beth Burt of Roseville, CA; eight grandchildren: Kristen Burt, Karalyn Yermak, David Burt, Joel Burt, Hannah Burt McCoy, Caitlin Burt, Brandon Burt, Cece (Burt) Fuller and Daniel O’Connor; and four great grandchildren: Jeremy, Declan, Jude and Madeline.
Along with her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Ann Burt; her sister, Sr. Connie Hoffman IHM; a grandchild, Sarah Burt, and a great-grandson, Jensen Yermak.
Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Ruth's honor are asked to please consider St. Mary's Catholic Church.
