Richard D. Hardy

April 29, 1930 – November 3, 2021

 

Richard “Dick” Day Hardy, age 91 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, in the emergency room at the ProMedica Regional Hospital of Monroe, attended by a caring staff of doctors and nurses. 

 

Dick was born in Lapeer, MI on April 29, 1930, to the late Arthur and Mary (Reed) Hardy. He graduated from Lapeer High School in the class of 1948. He continued his education at Michigan State University in East Lansing for one semester after which he started working at Buick Motor Company in Flint for three years. On August 3, 1953, Dick began his career with the Detroit Edison Electric Company. He worked at 4 different generating plants before retiring after 38 years on his birthday in 1991 as a power plant operator.

 

On May 14, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart: Betty Willobee. They became the parents of the three Hardy boys: John D., Jeffery, and James.

 

To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of 72 years, Betty; three sons; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his infant grandson: Jeremy Matthew Hardy, and a special daughter in law:  Laura Jean Hardy on October 23, 2021.

 

In accordance with Dicks’ wishes, cremation will take place with no services at this time. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home. Online condolences to the family may be made through www.ruppfuneralhomeinc.com
