Nancy Elizabeth Burkett, age 89 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at home under hospice care.

Born December 20, 1931 in Monroe. She was one of six children of the late Eugene and Mary (Culler) Campbell. Nancy graduated from Monroe High School in 1949. At the age of 13, Nancy became a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and was a lifelong member for 76 years. She was an accomplished pianist and pipe organist. She also served as a pianist or pipe organist substitute for multiple churches in the Monroe county.

Nancy met the love of her life William E. Burkett. They got married on July 24, 1955 in Monroe. They raised a family of three boys and spent over 65 wonderful years together. They enjoyed traveling with one another especially to Branson, Missouri.

Nancy first worked at the Monroe Consolidated Paper Company as a secretary. She then went to work at Steel Casting Company as a secretary to help her mother support her brothers and sisters. She lastly retired from Monroe Intermediate School District. She was a secretary at the ISD for 25 years before retiring in 1994.

Nancy had been a member of Sigma Phi Gamma for 50 years. She was also an accomplished seamstress. She made everything from wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, dance costumes, gowns, and Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading a good book as well.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Most important, she liked spending quality time with her family, especially her grandkids. Nancy will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.

Beloved wife of William Burkett. Loving mother of Daniel (Marsha) Burkett, David Burkett, and Dale (Connie) Burkett. Dearest grandmother of Nicole (Brandon) Garvin, Angela (Joshua) Petree, David (Morgan) Burkett, and Brian Burkett. Great grandmother of Taylor, Preston, Luke, Jacob, and Liam. Dear sister of Timothy (Judy) Campbell and John (Jeani) Campbell.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by siblings: Tom (Sharon) Campbell, Sarah (Mike) Raupp, and Carol (Bill) Nisley, and a nephew: Matthew Campbell.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Friday, February 26, 2021 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Monroe. Nancy will lie instate at 10 am with the funeral service starting at 11 am. Officiating is Pastor of the church, Rev. Melodye Surgeon VanOudheusden. In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, cremation will conclude services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Nancy’s name are suggested to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Monroe.
