Michele Edwards Obituary

Michele M. Edwards

January 28, 1954 – October 19, 2021

Michele Marie Edwards passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti. Michele was the second daughter born to Daniel and Virginia Powers in Detroit, Michigan, on January 28, 1954.

Michele is the dear sister to Kristina Powers Aubry (David), Daniel Kevin Powers (Cindy), Monica Nick (Dave) and Timothy Powers. She was a beloved aunt to Kealyn, Ryan, Brynley, Nolan, Seneca and Fallon. She was a friend to many.

She grew up and attended schools in Detroit and graduated with an Associate Degree from Monroe County Community College.

She moved from Michigan to spend 40 years in New England living and working near the Atlantic Ocean where she spent as much time as she could.  For many years, she was an antique dealer, owning a successful antique and collectibles store, where customers and staff found her knowledge and personality valuable assets.

Her most precious quality was her kind and sweet disposition. She would see joy in the tiniest things like a bird on a perch or eating pickles and olives.  In her pursuit of adventure and history, she traveled to parts of North America, Europe and Central America.

She was an outstanding award-winning artist, specializing in pen-and-ink drawings, creating many scenes from New England, individual house portraits and designed the Powers’ family Christmas cards for many years. She loved to garden, growing heirloom tomatoes, herbs and holly bushes; canning and preserving much of the yearly harvest. Her huge heart as an animal lover led her to rescue and adopt several cats over the years that brought her immense joy.

Gone too soon, with many more years she should have brought joy to others, she will be greatly missed by so many.

Presently, a private service for family is scheduled, but following her wishes a memorial celebration will be held in the future.  Those who wish may make a contribution in her memory to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or the Nature Conservancy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made to www.ruppfuneralhomeinc.com.
