Mary Kay Nelson, age 63, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 1, 2022.

Born on January 17, 1958, in Ypsilanti MI, Mary was the daughter of Harold and Francis (King) VanValkenburgh. Mary graduated from Ypsilanti High School with the class of 1976. It was there that she met Robert Nelson. They married on February 26, 1977, and together they raised three children. She went on to continue her education achieving her associates degree in accounting and was sadly only two weeks shy of her bachelor’s degree when she passed.

Mary was a proud Christian woman, who loved the Lord. She dedicated her life to her family which meant the world to her. One of her life goals was to write a children’s book and have it published. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and traveling. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

To cherish her memory, Mary leaves her loving husband of 44 years, Robert; two sons, James (Melissa) Nelson and Jon (Victoria) Nelson; a daughter, Julie (Shannon) Stamper; her mother, Francis VanValkenburgh; eight grandchildren, Mandie, Torrance, Collin, Jordan, Abby, Tyler, Kylee, and Sheala; and a sister, Ruth (Richard) Spragg.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, Harold.

In accordance with her wishes, the family will be having a memorial service in her honor at a later date.
