Joseph Harold Scanlon, age 91 of Monroe, formerly of Waterford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the IHM Senior Living Community.

Born October 15, 1931 in Detroit, MI. He was the son of the late Raymond and Mae (Long) Scanlon. Joe graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in Detroit in 1949. He later continued his education at the University of Detroit to earn his bachelor's degree. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War in 1952. He was later honorably discharged in 1954.

Joe met and married the love of his life: Mary Lou on August 24, 1957. They raised a family of five children and spent over 60 wonderful years together before Mary Lou sadly passed away in 2017.

Joe made his living working at General Motors Automotive. He worked throughout many different plants in Detroit and the metro areas. He was a Labor Relations Specialist for over 47 years before retiring. Joe had an extremely strong work ethic and had never missed a day of work, except just one.

Joe was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Waterford, MI. In his free time, you could find him playing a game of golf or enjoying a card game. He will be remembered as a good honest man by all who knew him. Joe will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Beloved father of Margaret (Jeff) Daniel, Patrick Scanlon, Micheleen (Jeremy) Mantei, and Joe Scanlon. Loving grandfather of Elise Daniel, McKenzie Mantei, and Emma Mantei.
