Joseph D. D’Haene
April 20, 1928 – December 9, 2022
Joseph D. D’Haene, age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Fountain View Monroe.
Joe is the son of Henry and Clara (Vanisacker) D’Haene. Born on April 20, 1928 in Monroe, MI. He is a graduate of Monroe High School and proudly served in the United States Army during WWII and in 1950 he was called back to serve in the Korean War. After his tour of duty, Joe worked for the City of Monroe Water Department for more than 40 years retiring in July 1988.
On August 27, 1949 Joe married Lorraine Janssens at St. John Church, Monroe. She preceded him in death. After many years of friendship, Joe then married Anna L. Fouts on August 31, 1984 in St. Mary Church, Monroe.
Joe was a devoted Roman Catholic parishioner and has been a member of Knight of Columbus #1266 since 1946 and a long time member of St. Mary Church. He was a master wood worker and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, University of Michigan football as well as the Detroit Lions. He loved to golf, read mysteries and old western books.
Joe is survived by his wife Anna; sons, Dennis D’Haene of Onsted, MI and John D’Haene of Monroe, MI; daughters, Joan’e D’Haene of Louisville, KY, Mary (James) Szych of Toledo, OH, Judith (Ron) Cooper of Toledo, OH and Paula (David) Stanifer of Monroe, MI; stepdaughters, Robin (John) Knight of Monroe, MI, and Trisha (Otto) Schaffenberg of Monroe, MI, 10 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Sadly, Joe is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Therese, granddaughter Tedra, brothers George and Julius, sisters Mary Ann, Helen and Madeline (Infant), and first wife Lorraine.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Rupp Funeral Home from 3:00PM – 8:00PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00PM. He will lie in state in St. Mary Church on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 9:00AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00AM. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe, MI with military honors.
