John M. Bruff

John Masson Bruff, age 86 of Monroe, passed away the morning of Wednesday November 23, 2022 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

John was born August 22, 1936 in Detroit, MI to the late William and Elizabeth (Masson) Bruff. After high school, he enlisted in the Army, serving proudly from 1954-1957 in the 82nd Airborne Division. Before receiving an honorable discharge and returning to civilian life, John met and married the love of his life, Virginia “Gail” Womack, on July 17, 1957 in Fayetteville, NC. The two of them would spend 65 loving years together and go on to have three children.

John began working at Burroughs Corporation. After receiving a layoff, John began working at the Ford Motor Company, and eventually found himself working at Rouge Steel. He would retire from there in 1999. In his spare time, John loved to sky dive. He coached Little League Hockey for many years, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed watching college football. John also loved being outdoors. He always would tend to his garden and enjoyed doing yardwork. Above all else, John loved spending time with his family and friends, but most of all he enjoyed being around all his grandchildren.

To cherish his memory, John leaves his loving wife, Gail; two children: Tammy (Ryan) Ofstie and Kevin Bruff; two grandchildren: Emily and Logan Ofstie; and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, John is also preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Bruff, and all his siblings.

In accordance with John’s wishes, cremation will occur, and a memorial will be held at a later date. John’s ashes will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
