Jean Waybright Obituary

Jean Ann Hoffman Waybright
November 21, 1934-January 14, 2021

Jean Ann Hoffman was born November 21, 1934 in Monroe and was the daughter of Leo and Gertrude Lauer Hoffman. Jean was the first-born daughter of three following generations of first-born daughters. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church where she celebrated baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and marriage.

Jean graduated from St. Mary parish school, and St. Mary Academy in 1952. She graduated as a registered nurse from the St. Vincent School of Nursing in Toledo and she worked at Mercy Hospital and for Dr. Walter Meier.

On April 21, 1956 she married Donald H. Waybright at St. Mary’s, and they would be married almost 46 years upon his death in 2002.

Jean was a lifelong volunteer for many groups- one of the longest was for the American Red Cross where she worked at blood drives and health screenings.

At St. Mary’s she was in the Christian Women service group, the St. Fiacre gardening club; she worked Bingo (also at Catholic Central and the Knights of Columbus), Soup & Salad Luncheons, Funeral Luncheons, fundraising Spaghetti Dinners, and more. Jean also helped organize the Pre-school catechism class. While her children were in school, she did happily what needed to be done- room mother, driver, chaperone.

She was in a women’s bowling league and had fun with her book club and in the Red Hat Society. She loved to garden (even pull weeds) and was a lifelong seamstress, making clothing and crafts. While her daughter was living in Japan, Jean was able to visit there and especially enjoyed the cuisine.

Jean loved being with her family and learning about her family tree. She volunteered in the ancestral Eby Log Cabin, being one of 4 generations to do so. She also volunteered at the Monroe County Historical Museum.

She knew the value of her time, her family, her faith and her community.

Jean Waybright, age 86 years, passed to the next life on January 14, 2021 at the IHM Center where she had lived about a year and a half. Her passing date was on the same date as her father Leo’s passing in 1954.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Don Waybright; brother-in-law John Kemmerling and sister-in-law Sharon Wood Hoffman.

Jean is survived by her four children: Lynn Waybright Reaume (John), Mark Waybright (Deb), Patti Waybright Lefere (Eddie), and Terri Waybright Janssen (Joe) all of Monroe county.

She is also survived by her siblings: Carol Hoffman Weaver (Bob) of Virginia, Helen (Pudge) Hoffman Kemmerling of Minnesota, and Nick Hoffman of Monroe.

She is also missed by her grandchildren: Rachel, Erica and Monique Reaume; Brad and Lindsey Waybright and Greg Gianino; Madeline, Peter, Paul and Patrick Lefere, Amber and Cathy Janssen.

And great-grandchildren: Carolyn Taylor, Arthur Warren; Katelyn, Leah and Makenzie Waybright, Elise Gianino, Cole Schreier; Edward, Henry and Sofie Allen. William and Toby Clason; Elke, Nehemiah and Violet McMaken.
