Harold Stone Obituary

Harold E. Stone
September 28, 1941-September 6, 2020

On Sunday September 6, 2020 God reached out his hands and said, "Come with me" to Harold Eugene Stone, age 78 of Monroe, who passed away at Wellspring Lutheran Services.

Family and friends may visit from 4-8pm on Thursday September 10, 2020 and again on Friday September 11, 2020 from 4-7pm, at Rupp Funeral Home, where a service will be held upon the conclusion of visitation on Friday at 7pm. Rev. Roy Southerland will officiate. Burial will be private at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

Harold was born the third child to Clarence E. and Margaret (Conquest) Stone September 28, 1941 in Gallatin, TN. Harold came to Michigan at age 10 so his Dad could work in the paper factory. He attended Custer Elementary and graduated from Monroe High School in 1959. Harold started working at Ace Paper Products on his 18th birthday, September 28, 1959. He took a medical retirement in 1994, during his 25th year.

Harold married his High School sweetheart, Betsy Ann Ross on April 14, 1962 at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. They have celebrated 58 years of marriage. They were blessed with one daughter, Debbie Ann Stone (Daryl) Marek.

Harold loved the outdoors, working in his yard, boating, ice fishing in the winter to catch perch and walleye. He is a life member of the Monroe Boat Club. Harold played softball for Ace Paper Products during the time they had a team, and he also bowled for several years with various teams on leagues, going to state tournaments many times. Harold also enjoyed riding his horse, Dusty, riding his motorcycle through the back roads up North in warm weather, and riding his snowmobile in the winter. Harold could also be found rifle or archery hunting for deer and duck.

During his declining health, he never lost his sense of humor. He loved making people laugh. He enjoyed watching his favorite sport teams, U of M "GO BLUE", the Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Pistons. Harold would joke that his favorite sport was eating and that he enjoyed it very much.

Surviving are Harold's wife, Betsy Stone; daughter. Debbie (Daryl) Marek; grand-daughter, Andrea Marek; brother, Charles Stone; half sister, Mary Stone (David) Barnard; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Louis E. Stone; two sister in laws, Jeanette Stone and Martha Stone; and step mother, June Surber Stone.
