August 13, 1964 – January 22, 2023

Gloria Lynne Warthen, age 57 of Newport, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Oakwood Hospital in Trenton, Michigan.

Gloria was brought into the world on August 13, 1964 at Southshore hospital. She was the youngest of Henry and Constance Abbott.  Gloria began motherhood at a young age, so she quickly learned to stand on her own two feet.  Even though her feet led her to her soulmate Richard, and he swept them up, she worked knuckle to bone until the minute she passed.

Gloria and Richard married October 12, 1985 at Bethany Baptist Church of Monroe.  They raised two sons and spent over 36 years growing within each other’s lives. They enjoyed gambling and special moments together.  Now she’s with him, and our memories are the stories to keep them with us. 

Gloria found her start in politics in 1999 when she was hired at the United States Postal Service.  She fought countless hours for her union and never forgot to permanently mark her name on the ticket for union steward.  Gloria could come off tough, but she gave her last dollar before she’d take a bite.  She’d run to the rescue at the cost of herself.  Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night keeps these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.  Gloria had a fierce drive for her children and grandchildren and the world is more beautiful with her story. Her story ended when she delivered her last package to the Lord Jesus, her soul. 

Soulmates in Heaven, her husband, Richard Lee Warthen Sr.  Loving mother of Todd Warthen and Ricky Warthen.  Beloved grandmother of Anthony, Ethan, Liberty, Lily, Elaina, Gabriel, Jayden, and Elijah.  Sister and brothers on earth are Margaret (Charles) Scott, Betty Dunlap, and Henry (Rhonda)Abbott.  United in the Kingdom with siblings Paul, Rose, James, Jane, and the Matriarch of the Abbott family her mother Constance. 

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, January 29th, 2023 at Rupp Funeral Home from 2:00pm-7:00pm.  And services will be held January 30th, 2023 at 11am.  Officiating is Rev. Larry Detruf.  The family has requested that anyone who attends services, to please arrive as you are.  She’d love that.  A procession will commence to Oakridge Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her family. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Warthen family.
