Everett Miller Obituary

Everett Miller

February 5, 1937 – May 26, 2023

Everett Miller, of Monroe, made his final journey home peacefully this morning with the window open, the sun shining, and birds singing. He was born in Sharps Chapel Tennessee in a one room, dirt floor home.  In his mid-teens he relocated to Monroe, Michigan where he graduated from Monroe High School and then went on to complete a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 1961, and then his master’s degree from Eastern University in 1972.  Having a family to support, he began teaching straight out of college for Airport Community Schools. While teaching high school he jumped at the opportunity to coach cross county, and as a cross country athlete in college, it was a perfect fit.  He coached for many years and led several of his athletes to State championships and was recently awarded the honor of induction to the Hall of Fame for his coaching achievements at Airport High School.

Throughout his life he had many other achievements, some of which are he was instrumental with implementing a union for the teachers of Airport High School, was Treasurer for many years at the Teachers Credit Union, and was an Ombudsman for Senior nursing homes in Tennessee.

He will be sadly missed by three daughters, Tanya (Miller) Vanderpool, Shawn (Miller) Greathouse and Kelly (Dennis)(Miller) Damzyn, all of Monroe and two sons, Everett S. Miller of Monroe and Kevin S. (Kim) Miller of Knoxville, Tennessee.  He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Shane Blessing, Jessie Vanderpool, Kasie Miller, Kyle Miller, Cori Miller, Ben Miller, Steven Fallon, and Andy Gonzales.  He was welcomed home to heaven by his three grandsons who passed before him, Donald Fallon, Tommy Gonzales, and Robert James Gonzales. He was also blessed with Nine great grandchildren, Drake and Tyler Vanderpool, Evan Blessing, Thomas Fallon, Cameron, Gage, Evelyn and Lucy Gonzales, James and Jasper Gonzales, Abigale (Pepper) Miller.

After teaching for 33 years, he enjoyed his retirement in a home that he built on Cherokee Lake, Tennessee, and after many years in Tennessee, he returned to Michigan to spend his convalescence with family.
