Erika H. Goss, age 78 of Kalkaska, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, surrounded by family at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan.

Erika was born on December 13, 1942, in Austria. She was one of five children born to the late Roman and Anna (Strilecki) Poronczuk. Erika graduated from Summerfield High School. She went on to work at a dress shop in Toledo and then a bakery in Saline.

In 1962, Erika married the love of her life, James Goss, in Toledo, Ohio. They raised a family of three children and spent over 59 years together. They both enjoyed fishing, playing euchre, and traveling to places such as Hawaii and Alaska.

Erika was a member of St. Mary’s of the Woods in Kalkaska, Michigan. She was also a member of the Kalkaska Eagles. Erika enjoyed gardening and being in nature. She loved to spend her time bird watching and she especially liked to look for hummingbirds as they were her favorite. Erika also had a love for music. She was fond of singing and going to concerts. She was also a life-long University of Michigan football fan.

To cherish her memory, Erika leaves her loving husband, James Goss; children: Sheila Goss, Eric (Mary) Goss, and William Goss; grandchildren: Trevor Mallett, Alexandrea Goss, Ashley (Thomas) Nemec, Natasha Richardson, Quinton (Carissa) Richardson, and Jake (Laura) Richardson; great-grandchildren: Laci, Jessa, Barrett, Makoa, Naima, Cameron, Ayden, Bentlee, and Kingslee; siblings: Victor (Shirene) Poronczuk, Adolf Poronczuk, and Monika Shapiro; in-laws: Jean (Ray) Goss, Sherrie Goss, and Terrie (Lynda) Goss; aunts: Mary Heinl and Kay Goss; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Erika is preceded in death by her brother, Roman Poronczuk, Jr.; in-laws: Sharon Poronczuk, David Shapiro, and Suzanne Goss.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Rupp Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Rupp Funeral Home. There will be a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 am with a service starting at 11:00 am. Officiating is Fr. Mike Woroniewicz. Burial will follow at Lulu Cemetery in Ida, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Erika’s honor to the Kalkaska County Veterans Trust Fund.
