Dennis Goldsmith Obituary

Dennis L. Goldsmith

July 6, 1958 – March 23, 2024

Dennis Lynn Goldsmith, age 65 of Temperance, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the ProMedica Regional Hospital of Toledo.

Born July 6, 1958, in Toledo, Ohio, he was one of six children born from the union of Arla (Iott) Goldsmith and the late Arnold Goldsmith. Dennis graduated from Bedford High School in 1977.

Dennis met and married the love of his life: Renee Reilly on July 8, 1977, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ida. Together they raised six children and spent more than 46 years together. Dennis worked for Chrysler Jeep in Toledo, Local 12, retiring after 32 years of service. During his time at Chrysler, while he was laid off, he also worked at the Sherrif’s office. After retiring from Chrysler, he worked for Mercy St. Charles Hospital as a security officer for nine years. For the last two years, to keep busy, he worked at Matthes Tree Farm in Ida as a handyman and grounds keeper.

Dennis, Den or Denny as he was called by family and friends, was a hardworking and intelligent man. Although he was often quiet, those who knew and loved him always knew how he felt. For more than 50 years, Den supported the Monroe County Fair. First as a volunteer for 20 years and then was elected to the board in 1994. As a child, Den was a Boy Scout and went on to mentor and act as liaison for Troup 1948 at the fairgrounds.

Den was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, sports and mushroom hunting with his brothers and kids. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. In his spare time, he liked to watch Jeopardy, westerns and the history channel. Most recently he was focusing his energy on horticulture, growing and propagating plants.

To cherish his memory Den leaves behind his beloved wife Renee, daughter Autumn (Bradley) Cole and sons Aaron (Tara) Goldsmith, Adam (Krista Gardner) Goldsmith, Austin (Danielle Raasch) Goldsmith, Andrew (Kristen) Goldsmith and Adrian (Laura Petee) Goldsmith.  Papa to grandchildren Reilly and Emma Cole, Kyle and Kira Goldsmith, Maci Goldsmith, Tyler, Drew and Rylie Gardner, Evalee Raasch and Isabella Shaw-Goldsmith. Dearest son of Arla Goldsmith and brother to Jeff (Kelly) Goldsmith, Tim (Jana) Goldsmith, Mark Goldsmith, Kevin (Ariel) Goldsmith, and Shawn (Gina) Goldsmith.

Den was preceded in death by his father Arnold Goldsmith and his grandparents.
