Carl L. Vandercook

August 9, 1941 – March 11, 2024

Carl Vandercook, age 82, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.

Born August 9, 1941, he was one of thirteen children born from the union of the late Gaylord and Hazel (Miller) Vandercook. Shortly after high school, Carl was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. He would go on to raise his family back home, in Monroe. Carl made his living working for Chrysler as a Production Technician for 30 years.

Carl was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1138.  In his spare time, he liked to go to the casino, always hoping to win it big on the penny slots. He also enjoyed fishing and was always down for a good joke.

Beloved father of Carl (Holly Casto) Vandercook Jr., Rodger Vandercook, and Leah Straka. Grandfather of Tabitha (William) Alexander, Alexis Vandercook, Chase (Caitlyn) Vandercook, Logan Vandercook, Shannon (Bobby) Thomas, Hannah (Troy) Chinavare, Abigail Straka, Sarah Straka and Chole Straka, and several great grandchildren.

Carl is preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Vandercook, twelve siblings, and his parents.

Family and friends are invited to visit Rupp Funeral Home on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 11 until 4 pm. A service in his honor will take place at 4 pm with Pastor James Brown officiating. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, MI.
