Bueford Theadford Dykes, age 99 of Monroe, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, July 25, 2022, at his home under hospice care.

Born May 18, 1923, in Middlesboro, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Charles and Maude (Mayes) Dykes. When Bueford was young, the family moved up to the Monroe area. He later attended classes at Michigan State University.

Bueford proudly served his county in the United States Army Air Corps. He served during World War II, stationed in Alaska from 1942 to 1946.

Bueford met and married the love of his life: Mildred Cornell on June 12, 1948. They raised a family of eight children and spent over 74 wonderful years together. Mildred was always his pride and joy and loved her unconditionally.

He made a living, working at Monroe Public Schools. He started as a janitor and worked his way up to being head of transportation for 40 years before retiring in 1985. Bueford was also a Mason of the Masonic Lodge of Monroe.

In his free time, Bueford loved to play a game of golf, go fishing, hunting, and took lots of pictures. He enjoyed woodworking, and even repurposed old wood to build his home. Most importantly, he liked to spend his time with his family. He will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.

Beloved husband of Mildred Dykes. Loving father of Christine (JC) Smith, Eileen Thomas, Richard Dykes, Vicki (Stephen) Mazur, Brad Dykes, Cheryl (Thomas) St. Bernard, Robert (Kathy Young) Dykes, and Joyce (Joseph) DeSloover. Dear grandfather of many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bueford was preceded in death by an infant daughter: Marleen Dykes, and by five brothers.

In accordance with Buefords wishes, cremation has taken place. Everyone is invited to a memorial gathering on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Rupp Funeral Home from 12:30 to 6:00 pm.
