Betty Lucille (Harris) Schindler

August 13, 1926 – February 2, 2021

Betty Lucille Schindler, age 94 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2021.

Born August 13, 1926 in White County, Indiana. She was one of three children of the late Delbert and Lucille (Duvall) Harris. Betty graduated from Monroe High School in 1944. She later married Leonard Joseph Schindler on June 21, 1947. Together they raised a family of three children and spent 45 years together before Lenny passing away in 1992.

Betty was a homemaker, loved baking 20 different varieties of Christmas cookies each year and giving them away as gifts to family and friends. She also worked during these years at Kline's Department Store downtown for 10 years, La-Z-Boy Chair Co. for 13 years, in the factory sewing upholstery for arm and seat covers until they closed the factory, and then at the Lutheran Home before retirement.

Betty enjoyed camping with family and friends. She loved Christmas and she made sure each family member had lots of gifts under the tree no matter what you brought her. Betty loved going to community festivals and her weekly trip to the beauty shop to get her hair done.

Surviving Betty are her two children: Tammy (Mark) Burson and Terry (Denise) Schindler; grandchildren, Joshua (Alexa), Jacob (Sarah), Melissa (Bryan), Michael (Bethany), Breonna (Steven), Joy (Ian); great grandchildren, Sophia, Jasmine, Josiah, Jacquelyn, Jackson, Karl, Caiden, Shilo, Valerie, and Brantley; one sister in-law JoAnne Harris and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, a son Barry in 2018, brothers, Marvin J. And Robert D. Harris. Also a very special friend in her life for 18 years Joseph E. Gabriels Sr.
