Betty Marie Burke, 94 of Temperance, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Hickory Ridge of Temperance.

Born February 25, 1928, in Monroe, Betty was the daughter of the late Roy and Carla (Estes) Whitaker. She met the love of her life, Clarence Burke and they married April 7, 1945, at Clark Street Baptist Church. Sadly, Clarence preceded her in death on November 6, 2017. Betty worked as a homemaker most of her life, raising their daughter, Nancy. Betty also worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Monroe Hospital.

Betty attended the Free Methodist Church for many years. She loved creating baby clothes, baby shoes, scarfs, and many other items. She was also an avid bowler, winning the First-Place trophy in 1970. Betty loved to travel, especially to Northern Michigan to witness the changing of the Fall colors. Above all else, Betty loved spending time with her family and friends.

To cherish in her memory, Betty leaves behind her loving daughter, Nancy (Leo) Bishop; grandson, Aaron (Sarah) Bishop; three great grandchildren, Noel, Harley, and Gavain Bishop; three sisters, Joyce Moyers, Patty Pendleton-Turner, and Donna Hensley; and Gavain's mother, Emily.

Meeting her at the gates of Heaven are her husband, Clarence, parents, brothers George, Kyle, and Joe Whitaker, and grandson Travis Bishop.

Family and friends may visit Thursday March 31, 2022, at Rupp Funeral Home from 5-7pm. A funeral service will be held the following day, Friday April 1, 2022 at Rupp Funeral Home beginning at 11am. Pastor Roy Southerland will officiate. Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband at Roselawn Memorial Park.
