Zayn Issac Phillips, age 4 of Flat Rock, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 3:06 p.m.

Born May 10, 2019, in Trenton, Michigan, he is the son of Mariah Dodds and Brian Phillips. Zayn was in his first year of preschool at Flat Rock Preschool. He was very proud of all the friends he made at school. Zayn was a sweet and loving young boy, who cherished cuddling with his mom while hogging all of the bed and spending time at his dad’s house. He collected Marvel Hero Goo Jit Zu figurines, Hulk and Spiderman being his favorites. No matter where he went, Zayn was sure to have a few characters stuffed into his backpack. He was full of energy and could often be dancing; jumping on the bed; building forts with his brother and sister; riding his dog, Kona, like a horse; and playing outside. He loved his “chocky milk” and enjoyed eating his favorite food, fruit snacks. Zayn loved to read books to family members, often making his own story based on the depictions illustrated throughout the book.  He looked up to his older brother, Jayden, wanting to be just like him; the two spent many hours playing videogames together. Zayn enjoyed entertaining, making others laugh and always had to have his blankie.

Zayn will lie in state next to his beloved sister, Alanah, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Daily Church, 22333 King Road, Woodhaven, Michigan, 48183 where services celebrating their life will begin at 11 a.m. Rev. Matt Thisse, interim Pastor of the church will officiate. A private interment at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Brownstown Township, will follow.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his mother, Mariah Dodds; father, Brian Phillips; godmother, Kristen “Tweety” Sigler; one brother, Jayden Phillips; one godbrother, Stetson Moczydlowsky; maternal grandmother, Dolores Dodds; maternal grandfather, Roger (Emily Logan) Dodds; paternal grandmother, Kathleen Phillips; grandfather, Robert M. McClintock; eight aunts and uncles: Derek (Christian Dew) Dodds, Raquel (Lenny) Smouthers, Darian Dodds, Christopher Anderson, Nicholas Phillips, Ashley McClintock, Tony Schmelter, and Robert A. “Bubby” McClintock; and many cherished cousins.

He was welcomed into heaven by his sister, Alanah; grandfather, Marty Phillips; aunt, Vanessa Painter; and one cousin, Isabella Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Zayn’s memory are suggested to the family’s benefit account through Fifth Third Bank in the name of: Mariah Dodds and Children Benefit Account.
