William H. Thorne III
June 27, 1964 – May 19, 2025
William was a jack of all trades, loved animals, and was always willing to assist those in need. He grew up helping his parents build Thorne Hills Golf Course which he owned and worked at for a majority of his life. He briefly worked for Chrysler on the assembly line where he excelled and learned every position. He purchased two other courses that he ran with his brother Daniel for a decade before selling.
As an animal lover, he operated a small petting farm at Old Town Golf Course where he had goats and even a pig. He enjoyed sailing his boat with his daughter, Savannah. He also spent many summers vacationing in the Florida Keys with his children and going deep sea fishing. He enjoyed watching his son Adam perform music and attended many shows. William loved going to garage sales and finding unique items. On a few occasions, he would sing Karaoke at the Moose Lodge in Monroe. He also had many cherished memories with his grandson. Most recently, he lived in Deerfield with his youngest son, Will, where they remodeled a historic building. He was a carpenter, electrician, plumber, and master groundskeeper. There was no project that William couldn't do himself and he was the go-to person to call for any advice.
He passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at age 60. William leaves behind his three children: Adam, Will, Savannah and grandson Henry. Survived by his siblings Daniel Thorne, David Thorne, Donald Thorne, Michelle White; brother-in-law, Dennis White; and sisters-in-law: Patty Thorne and Dedi Thorne. His parents were Daniel G Thorne and Rosalie Thorne of Carleton, Michigan.
A memorial picnic and bonfire is being planned on his birthday, Friday June 27, 2025 from 5-9pm at Thorne Hills Golf Course 12915 Sumpter Rd, Carleton, Michigan. Donations may be made to the family for expenses via Cash App ($SavannahJThorne) or at the memorial. Rupp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
