Vivian L. Carpenter
June 28, 1933 – August 8, 2023
Vivian Lanora Carpenter (Indian name: Elohee), age 90 of LaSalle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at her home under hospice care.
Born June 28, 1933, in Paw Paw, MI. She was the daughter of the late Loris and Cecelia (Stevens) Reynolds. Vivian received her GED, alongside her eldest daughter: Cathleen, they completed it together.
Vivian met and married the love of her life: William Charles “Bill” Carpenter on June 8, 1974, at the Monroe Free Methodist Church on Dunbar Road in Monroe. They raised a family of eight children and spent over 49 wonderful years together.
She was a loving homemaker to her family, but also was on the Team Driving Semi’s over the road with her husband, Bill. Vivian was a member of the First Baptist Church on N. Custer Road, but prior to that, she was a member at the Free Methodist Church of Monroe.
Vivian was a proud descendant of Chief David Shoppenagon of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, of which she was an Elder. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and preserving food canning. Most importantly, she loved spending quality time with her family. Vivian will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.
Beloved wife of Bill Carpenter. Loving mother of DuWayne Stroebel, Colleen (Gary) Weirich, Charleen (Rob Zulewski) Stroebel, Timothy Carpenter, and Arlene (Patrick) Graham. Dearest grandmother of 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents: Loris and Cecelia Reynolds, Vivian was preceded in death by children: Cathleen Ellison, Reynold Stroebel, and Rodger Stroebel; grandson: Randel Ellison II; great-great granddaughter: Miranda Ellison; and brothers: James and Harry Reynolds.
A special thank you to her grandson: Clinton and Amy Ellison who also helped with her daily care.
Everyone is invited to a visitation on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Rupp Funeral Home from 10 am until the time of service, starting at 1 pm. Officiating is Pastor Kim and Cindy Semran. Burial will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park.
