Thomas A. DeSloover
April 26, 1949 – July 20, 2022
Thomas August DeSloover, age 73 of Carleton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the ProMedica Regional Hospital of Toledo.
Born April 26, 1949 in Monroe. He was one of nine children of the late Alphonse and Doris (Burghardt) DeSloover. Tom graduated from Catholic Central Academy in 1967. He continued his education at the University of Toledo to receive his bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Tom made his living working at Owens Corning Fiberglass Insulation as an accountant from 1970 to 1990. Many odd jobs throughout a 12 year period. In 2002, Tom went to work as a stocker for Buschs Market in Carleton for seven years before taking a break due to Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. His cancer went into remission in 2016 and he went back to working at Meijer in Flat Rock for five years before retiring for good in July, 2021.
Tom met and married the love of his life, Robin Brazon, on October 3, 2003. They were then blessed by the church in 2006. Together, they enjoyed traveling to their favorite spots like Put-In-Bay, OH and tent camping in Manistee, MI. Relaxing outside and listening to music together was a treasured pastime of his. They enjoyed many adventures and spent over 20 wonderful years together.
Tom was a eucharist minister and long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus as well as the Moose Lodge in Monroe. In his free time, Tom enjoyed taking long walks and riding his electric bike, stopping by his favorite local pubs for a cold beer and chatting with friends. He loved spending time with his family and took pride in being a bonafide grill master. He was an avid gardener; growing plants was an art to him and he did it very well. Tom was a University of Michigan Football fan and a dedicated Detroit Tigers fan. He rarely missed a Tiger’s Opening Day game. If not in the stands, he was cheering his team on from a favorite spot outside the stadium. Tom celebrated each holiday to the fullest. On St. Patrick’s Day and Halloween, he would dress up, hit the town, and have the time of his life. Tom loved life and cherished his time with his children and grandkids. They affectionately call him Papa Tom. He will be deeply missed and will remain forever in the hearts of his loved ones.
Beloved husband of Robin DeSloover. Loving father of Jennifer (Greg) Andrade, Dan (Becca) DeSloover, and Robin E. DeSloover; stepfather to Rayna (Brandon) Drew and Renee (Tonino) Vicari. Dearest Papa of 11 grandchildren. Dear brother of Rose DeSloover, Cil Hartle, Irene (David) Bland, Sharon (Bert) Hellar, Larry (Phyllis) DeSloover, and John (Karen) DeSloover.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by a stepson: Royce Florence Jr., and sisters: Catherine Gruber and Alice DeSloover.
Everyone is invited to a visitation on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Rupp Funeral Home, from 1:00 to 8:00 pm, with a rosary that night at 7:00 pm.
