Susan Denman Obituary

Susan L. Denman

December 25, 1944 – May 21, 2025

Susan Louise Denman, age 80 of Monroe, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at her home.

Born December 25, 1944, in Monroe, she was the daughter of the late John Chester (Priscilla Navarre) McGill and Eleanor (Greca) McGill. Susan attended St. John's Catholic School through 9th grade, then attended Monroe High School, graduating in 1962. She continued her education at Pima County Community College (Tucson, Arizona) and Siena Heights College.

Susan married the love of her life, Norman J. Denman, who she called her soul mate, on August 22, 1964. They raised a family of two children and spent over 49 wonderful years together before Norm sadly passed away on June 21, 2014.

She started her adult work life as a court clerk in Monroe. Throughout her life she worked in the financial sector, such as Southern Arizona Bank (Tucson); Monroe Bank & Trust; and Republic Bank, as well as Merrill Lynch. Her favorite position was in the advertising department for Kmart creating the print advertising layouts for all of southern Arizona.

Susan retired from Republic Bank.  A lifelong volunteer, after retiring she continued to be of service to a variety of organizations through RSVP, including Hospice of Monroe, Monroe Courthouse information desk, Frenchtown Senior Center, Gabby's Ladder Grief Center, and the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Over the years she received several awards through her employers and volunteering and was most recently awarded Volunteer of the Year at Frenchtown Senior Center (2021).

Susan was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church and was a member of several parishes in Arizona and Michigan, but most recently St. Irene's (Dundee). She was a caregiver for her family and that was her primary concern, as well as being of service to others through volunteering. When her children were young, she participated in the school PTA, was a CCD teacher, was a 4-H club leader and a leader for several 4-H projects. (And for a time, she raised and showed rabbits!) She liked attending art fairs, plays and musicals. Susan also particularly loved listening to the blues—she listened to WEMU every day—and watching her favorites on TV like PBS. She will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.

Surviving are her children: Shelly Denman and Troy (Charisse Dedeluk) Denman; grandchildren: Nicole (Brad) Sweeney, Jessica Denman, and Madeleine Linson; siblings: Sally (late Robert) Genge, John (Linda) McGill, and Eileen (Jon) Baldock.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband: Norman Denman; parents: John Chester McGill and Eleanor (Greca) McGill; stepmother: Priscilla (Navarre) McGill; and brother: Peter McGill.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place with no services at this time. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home.

Memorial donations in honor of Susan are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) (she was a long-time monthly donor) or your favorite PBS affiliate.
