Steven Mitchell McKinney Jr.
“Lil Stevie”
July 7, 1993 – March 20, 2025
Steven Mitchell McKinney, age 31, of South Rockwood, passed away after suffering injuries from an unexpected accident on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Born July 7, 1993, in Monroe, he was the son of Steven and Ruth (Apperson) McKinney. Stevie attended and graduated from Airport High School with the class of 2011 and went on to earn his associate’s degree in Welding from Monroe County Community College.
Stevie was a free-spirited man who looked at life as his own personal adventure. He had a heart of gold and loved and cherished his friends and family. If ever anyone needed him, he was always there to lend a helping hand.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing horseshoes, fishing, camping, hunting for Moral mushrooms and tinkering in the garage. His best times, however, were the times spent with family and friends around the bonfire. He was the self-proclaimed “Fire Keeper” and he held that position with honor.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his parents: Steven and Ruth McKinney, two brothers: Jason (Autumn) McKinney and Jonathan (Caitlyn) McKinney; a sister, Jenna (Branson) McKinney; two nephews: Liam and Levi McKinney and many loving aunts, uncles and special cousins.
Steven is preceded in death by his grandparent: Frank and Iva McKinney and Larry and Fran Apperson and two uncles: David McKinney and Richard Apperson
In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home.
