Stephen Wayne McMullen

June 25, 1960 – July 2, 2024

Stephen W. McMullen, age 64, of Monroe, passed away peacefully in his home, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

Born June 25, 1960, he was the son of James and Theresa (Ziegler) McMullen. Stephen was born and raised in Monroe and was one of 6 children. In 1979, Stephen married Ruby Howard and together they raised 6 children.

Proud to be a hands-on learner, he made his living as a mechanic. So good at it in fact that he was able to raise and support his family. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything.

In his free time, Stephen enjoyed drag races, four-wheeling, fishing, and gardening. Everyone lovingly called it Papaws pumpkin patch. He will be remembered for his funny personality, kind heart, and a soft-spoken loving nature. Most importantly, he cherished quality time with his family.  Stephen will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

To cherish his memory, Stephen leaves 6 children: Kristy McMullen, Heather (Daniel) Allen, Angie (Daniel) Slaughterbeck, Cory (Stephanie) McMullen, Leslie (Andrew) Lay, and Alyson (Bryan) Machus; 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, with two on the way. Stephen also leaves three brothers: Charles (Barb) McMullen, Jeffrey McMullen and Michael (Tracey) McMullen and a sister, Linda (James) Clawson.

In addition to his parents, Stephen is preceded in death by a sister: Barbara Ann Mata.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home from 2 to 7 pm. A funeral service will be on Monday, July 8, 2024, at the funeral home starting at 11 am. Officiating is by his family, Pastor Joe Mata. Burial will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
