Shirley A. Kettinger
April 9, 1936 - October 2, 2021
Shirley Ann Kettinger, age 85 of Grand Haven, formerly of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 2, 2021.
Born April 9,1936 in Monroe. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Leona (Cloum) Haddox. Shirley graduated from Monroe High School in 1954. She then continued her education with honors at Eastern Michigan University. She received her Bachelor degree in Art Education & English Literature.
Shirley met and married the love of her life: Elwin Kettinger on January 28, 1956 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Together worked on their family farm and raised a family of four children. They spent over 52 wonderful years together until Elwin's passing in 2008.
Shirley was a teacher for Monroe Public Schools as well as taught all over Monroe County. She could teach any subject, but she specialized in the Arts. She was a long time member at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she was a part of their Ladies Aide and enjoyed baking for the church. One of her specialties were her cherry preserves.
In her free time, Shirley loved working with ceramics and even had her own kiln in her home. She also enjoyed reading, painting, and creating anything artistic. Most importantly, family meant the world to her. She will be remembered as one the sweetest, loving, giving, and selfless person that she was to everyone who met her. Shirley will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.
Beloved mother of Keith (Marie) Kettinger, Paul (Gerry) Kettinger, Neil (Victoria) Kettinger, and Lois (Gary) Keenan. Loving grandmother of Chelsea Nelson, AJ Kettinger, Nicholas Kettinger, Leonard Kettinger, Stuart Kettinger, Shawn Fisher, Krystal Bowman, and Michael (Lauren) Kilpatrick. Great grandmother of Khloe, Cross, Jameson, Jack, Beau, and Moxie. Dear sister of Ronald (Connie) Reinhardt and Dale Reinhardt.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband : Elwin Kettinger, and an infant brother: Charles Reinhardt.
Everyone is invited to a visitation on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 2:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Monroe starting at 11 am. Officiating is Pastor of the church: Nate Fager. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a memorial donation in Shirley's honor is suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
