Shawna L. Bezeau
May 16, 1962- July 2, 2025
Shawna Loraine Bezeau, age 63, a lifelong resident of Monroe Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at the Henry Ford Detroit Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 16, 1962, in Monroe MI. Shawna was the eldest of four children of the late Donald and Karen (Hoffman) Fling. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anne’s Parish in Monroe and enjoyed attending different churches in her hometown area. Shawna graduated from Monroe High School in 1980 and later, pursued her degree in occupational therapy from Eastern Michigan University.
She spent most of her life helping others while working in a variety of healthcare settings. Shawna worked for the State of MI Department of Health and Human Services for over 24 years where she provided occupational therapy services for people with chronic mental illness. She received high-performing evaluations and was a dedicated and conscientious employee. She was a genuine asset and a strong patient advocate.
Her dedication and commitment were reflected in the many awards and recognitions she received in both her educational pursuits and employment history. She was honored by Monroe County Community College and received a Writing Fellowship Award for her outstanding work. Later in her career, she was honored by Lansing with a Special Tribute for her outstanding ability to help people with disability become more independent and reach their goals. In addition, she was recognized by Wayne County for her compassion, commitment, and outstanding professionalism. Shawna also received a Distinguished Employee Award from Walter P. Reuther Psychiatric Hospital. She was a valued team player and provided many valuable contributions.
While she showed so much accomplishment in her career, she was a loving mother to two sons who meant the world to her and were her priority above all else. She was there for them through every accomplishment, the years of sports they played, thru school and college events, and helping them to reach their own goals. She was a very proud mom and liked to share their accomplishments and career achievements. In addition, she was blessed with two daughters-in-laws and six grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy, and she loved to be with them! She also enjoyed photography, traveling, new adventures, prayer, and event planning with her Monroe High School Class of 1980.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her sons Chad (Cassie) Bezeau of Newport and Derek (Mary) Bezeau of Monroe; Six grandchildren: Isabelle, Lucy, Ben, Josephine, Hudson, and Amelia and her sisters Dawn and Tammie. In addition to her parents, Shawna was preceded in death by her brother, Donald C. Fling, her grandparents, and her lovable dog companion, Destiny.
Family and Friends are welcome to visit from 5 PM to 7 PM at Rupp Funeral Home, located at 2345 South Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161 on Friday, July 11, 2025. A funeral service will take place at 7 PM this same evening at Rupps Funeral Home. Officiating is Rev. Larry Detruf. In accordance to Shawna’s wishes, she will be cremated; a cemetery service will be later scheduled for the immediate family.
