Sara Sue Cocherell (Ford), age 81, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, following a long illness.

Sara and her paternal twin, Michael Lew Ford, were born on June 24, 1943, in Wyandotte, Michigan to Thurston Watson Ford and Mary Lou Ford (Ward).

Although small in stature, Sara was fearless. Never one to back down from a fight, she was fiercely protective of her children and fearlessly bold in her faith. Whenever faced with a challenge, Sara would remind her daughters, who most often didn’t want to hear it, that, “it’s never God”. Her God could never be wrong.

Sara was a proud and active member of the Carleton Church of God for many years. Along with her large, extended family, Sara filled in where needed, whether that be singing in the choir or cleaning the building.

As part of a close-knit family, Sara never missed a family gathering and never failed to show up when someone she loved was in need. Along with her husband Carl, Sara helped fill the gap when one of her sisters was widowed with four young children.

Job number one was raising her four girls, but Sara was also a school bus driver for Monroe Public Schools. One of her greatest joys was working alongside her daughter Carla, owner of Carla’s Nail Booth and Beauty Spa. Sara was an integral part of that operation for ten years.

Sara was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Michael Lew Ford, sister Patsy Charlene Ensch, daughter Patty Dean Doty and her loving husband, Carl E. Cocherell.

She leaves behind daughters Carla (Dave) Nutt, Roxanna Cocherell and Tammy Lynn Foster, sisters Juanita Belle Harold, Mary Bess Fairrington and brother, Hyland Ford. Sara was a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by them, and her many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Rupp Funeral Home, located at 2345 South Custer Road, Monroe, Michigan, 48161 on Thursday, December 26, 2024. A viewing will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with a short service to follow. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
