Roger Lee Evans, age 87, of Monroe, passed away peacefully in his home, in the early morning hours of April 11, 2022.

Born January 9, 1935, in Monroe, Michigan, Roger was one of six children born from the union of the late Kyle and Pauline (Nagy) Evans. He received his high school diploma from Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1953. In 1955, Roger married Ina Zimmerman and together they would raise four sons. Although he started his career as a Police Officer, Roger chose to become a Firefighter for the Monroe Fire Department and did so from 1964 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Monroe Moose lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Roger was a very hard working and busy man. When he was not at the fire department, he could usually be found doing odd jobs for others. He was outgoing and always stayed active. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, going on walks, music, singing and a good meal. Most of all, however, Roger loved his time spent with his family.

To cherish his memory, he leaves four sons: Kevin Evans, Alan (Donna) Evans, Dennis Evans, and Ryan (Peggy) Evans; five grandchildren: Ashley Blake, Amber Ransom, Denise Strother, Alexis Evans, and Matthew Evans; a sister, Shirley (Richard) Nation, and six great grandchildren.

Roger is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ina Evans, three brothers: Kyle, Jim and Tom Evans, and a sister, Thelma Turner.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Rupp Funeral Home from 1 until 7 pm. A funeral service will take place at Rupp on Friday, April 15,2022 at 10 am. Rev. Larry Detruf will officiate. Roger will be laid to rest immediately following at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle.
