1939 –2023

Robert “Bob” Grul, of Monroe, Mi. passed away on November 7, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family. His battle with serious medical issues in the last year showed his courage in facing this life challenge with a smile. Despite the pain, Bob came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

Bob’s career as a Claims Manager for AAA Insurance Company spanned 34 years. Over the course of his career, he worked and covered many different branches throughout SE Michigan, including Monroe. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Dundee Sportsmen Club.

When it came to sports, Bob loved them all. Golf was his lifelong passion, having accumulated many awards and trophies over the years, not to mention a number of the famed and elusive “hole in one”. There wasn’t a golf course Bob didn’t enjoy playing, except the one with the occasional alligator. He was also a long time member of the Monroe Golf and Country Club.

Leaving behind his beloved Audrey and son Robert, he was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Grul and his brother, John.

A trusting soul with a big heart, Bob had friends from all walks of life. He will be remembered for all the good times filled with joy and laughter, his kindness, generosity, and charity. Bob will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of his many friends and loved ones.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Rupp Funeral Home from 12 noon to 6 pm. A funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Bob will lie instate at 10 am with mass at 11 am. Officiating is Fr. Michael Anagbogu. Burial will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Robert can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
