Robert Gillenkirk, age 72, of Monroe, passed away suddenly in his home on Monday, February 17,2025.

Born October 27,1952 in Monroe, he was one of five children born from the union of the late Peter and Pansy (Poley) Gillenkirk. Robert graduated from Monroe High School and shortly after he began what was to become a 48-year career working as a Produce Manager at Kroger. He made his life in Monroe and chose to raise his children there. On June 8, 1996, Robert married Cynthia Tallent and they enjoyed 28 years together before her passing on December 15, 2024.

Robert was the life of the party and would often be found joking and laughing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and riding in his boat. He looked forward to spending time at his lake house. Robert also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams and spending time with his dog pals, George and Lady. His greatest pleasure, however, came from having his family together. He will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his children: Jeff Gillenkirk, Craig (Kristine) Gillenkirk, Mike Armstrong, Alice O’Dell and Melissa Bannett, a brother, Richard (Jean) Gillenkirk, two sisters: Roberta Kahlbaum and Donna Zeigler, eleven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Gillenkirk and a sister, Ruth Headrick.

Family and friends may visit on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home, from 2 until 7 pm. A funeral service will take place at Rupp on Monday, February 24, 2025 at 11 am with Rev. Larry Detruf officiating. Robert will be laid to rest immediately following the service at St. Joseph cemetery in Monroe.
