Richard (Dick) Schmelz, 83, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at Fountain View of Monroe on February 14th.    

Born April 30th, 1937 in Monroe, he was the son of Irvin & Margaret (Ihrig) Schmelz. 

Richard married Marjorie E. Shankleton in 1959 and was married for 59 years until her passing in 2018.  He graduated from Monroe Catholic Central High School in 1955 and later earned his bachelor’s degree from Cleary College in Accounting.  He worked for F. Joseph Lamb Company in Warren Michigan as a Comptroller until becoming medically retired in 1975.

Richard loved stamp collecting, coin collecting, hunting and fishing. 

To cherish his memory, he leaves behind two children:  Richard (Deb) Schmelz Jr. of Ann Arbor, MI and Laurie Williams of Scottville, MI; four sisters:  Marjorie (Stan) Miller of Monroe, Jean (Jim) Falk of Reston, VA, Jane (Norm) Dessum of Temperance, MI and Sally (Ray) Baudino of San Clemente, CA; five grand children:  Melodie Goda, Brett (Wendy) Goda, Christopher (Rebecca) Schmelz, Brittany (Ryan) Krellwitz and Nicole Schmelz as well as nine great-grand children.

Due to current Covid health concerns, the family has chosen to not have a funeral or memorial service at this time.  Richard will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Maybee next to his loving wife.
