Richard Hale Obituary

                                       Richard Allen Hale
                                July 11, 1939 – April 12, 2025

Richard Hale, age 85, of Newport, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Born July 11, 1939, in Wyandotte, he was the son of the late Harry and Sylvia (Schumacker) Hale. Richard graduated from T. Roosevelt High School with the class of 1958 and went on to further his education at Lawrence Technical University. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy for 21 years before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. Richard also worked for 31 years at Detroit Edison as a Technical Supervisor, retiring in 1999. During that time, he was the winner of the Alex Dow Award for contributing on a six-person team for the design, construction, and testing of coal handling system improvements at the Monroe Power Plant.

Richard married Carole Lynn Surbrook in 1960, and together they raised a son who was born in 1970, David Allen Hale. Sadly, after 57 wonderful years of marriage, Carole passed. Richard belonged to the Fleet Reserve, the N.R.A., and the F.O.E Aerie #2254. He made many donations and contributions to many organizations including St.Jude, Boys Town, Kids Wish Foundation, Paralyzed Vets, American Legion, VFW, Mackinac Center, and many more. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, watching football, NASCAR, relaxing by the water, and Happy Hour. Richard will be truly missed by all that loved and knew him.

To cherish his memory, Richard leaves his only grandson, James (Angel) Hale and 7 great grandchildren, Ethan, Izabella and David Hale, Julien Major, Kai and Elijah Desbrough and Anna Rae.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Harry and Sylvia Hale, his loving wife, Carole and his beloved son, David.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
