Rich was born on November 19, 1970 on the US Army Base, Fort Benning, in Georgia. He was one of three children born to the late Larry and Fran Apperson. Rich was a 1988 graduate of Jefferson High School. While in school, Rich was in the Boy Scouts and eventually earned Eagle Scout rank in 1988. When he wasn’t busy with his hobbies, Rich could usually be found working at Subway. Everyone enjoyed seeing him there and even named him “The Subway Guy.”

Rich is survived by lifelong best friends, Duane and Cindy (Bell) Lucio of Carleton, and Terri Podsaid of Taylor; brother, Bill (Mylisa) Apperson of Lexington, South Carolina; sister, Ruth (Steve) McKinney of South Rockwood, Michigan; nieces and nephews: Stevie, Jason (Autumn), Jon (Caitlyn), Jenna (Branson), Billy (Savvy) Apperson, and Megan (Michael) Oswald; and great nieces and nephews: Liam, Levi, Liam, Tillman, and Skylar.
