Phillip Joseph Wood, age 89 of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the ProMedica Regional Hospital of Monroe.

Born November 24, 1933 in Monroe. Phil was the son of the late Fred and Lois (Burchett) Wood. Phil graduated from Monroe High School in 1951. After school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country honorably in Greenland at the end of the Korean War.

Phil married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Keehn on January 18, 1964. She was the love of his life. They raised two children and spent over 50 wonderful years together before Sharon sadly passed away in 2014.

Phil made his living working at Ford Motor Company as a Tool and Die maker for 37 and a half years before retiring. Phil was a member of the Canvas Back Gun Club, the Monroe Rod and Gun Club, and the Detroit Beach Boat Club.

In his later years, he enjoyed getting together every Friday at Panera with his coffee group. Phil also enjoyed taking care of his cars, making sure they were always in tip top shape. In his free time, he was an avid reader who loved movies, as well as listening to music like Frank Sinatra.

Most importantly, Phil enjoyed spending his quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of his loved ones and his friends.

Phil was the beloved father of Michael Wood and Linda (John) Barton, and the loving grandfather of Hannah Barton and Nicholas Barton.

In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by wife: Sharon Wood; brothers: Alonzo, Kemp, Charles, William, Robert, J.T., Kenneth, Amos Wood; and sisters: Alberta Webster, Elsie Ballard, and baby Hazel.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Rupp Funeral Home from 10:30 am to 1 pm. The funeral service will begin at 1 pm on Friday. A burial will follow immediately after the service at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Phil’s name are suggested to ProMedica Hospice.
