Novella Sulfridge, age 90 of Temperance, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family the evening of Monday October 2, 2023 at Fountain View of Monroe.

Novella was born July 25, 1933 in Tazewell, TN to Lonnie and Myrtle (Minton) Herrell. She would go on to meet and marry the love of her life, Rev. JD Sulfridge on December 24, 1949 in Middlesboro, KY. Sadly, JD passed away in 2004.

Novella loved to cook. Her chocolate cream pie was revered by many and was a staple at family functions. She put her hobby and skills in the kitchen to use by working many years as a cook in the cafeteria at Mercy Memorial Hospital. In her spare time, Novella loved to go antiquing and was an avid church goer while living up in Oscoda, MI. Above all else, Novella loved spending time with her family and friends.

To cherish her memory, Novella leaves two daughters: Sandra (the late Walter “Pete”) Hoffman and Judy (Dan) Schulz; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and ten great great grandchildren.

Along with her husband, Rev. JD Sulfridge, and son in law, Pete Hoffman, Novella is also preceded in death by her parents: Lonnie and Myrtle Herrell; three daughters: Patricia Ann Sulfridge, Linda Gail Duvall, and Wanda Joyce Duvall; one brother, Donald Edward Herrell; and one great grandson, Thayer Stump Jr.

Family and friends may visit from 530-6pm on Friday October 6, 2023 at Rupp Funeral Home, where a celebration of Novella’s life will be held at 6pm. Pastor Roy Southerland will officiate. Private burial will occur at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
