Nora Dale Southwell, age 87 of Monroe, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

Nora was born on July 30, 1934. She was one of two children born to the late Carl and Nelda Wilson. Nora graduated from Monroe High School and shortly thereafter, she began her most important role in life as a mother. While raising her children she helped support her young family by doing various jobs. Her favorite job, however, was when she worked at Stotz Farm in Ida.

On July 30, 1968, Nora married the love of her life, Larry Southwell. They raised a family and spent over 48 years together before Larry's passing in 2016.

Nora was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses here in Monroe. Nora’s nurturing nature extended from her family to her love of animals. Throughout her life she took in numerous animals of all kinds including birds, raccoons, cats, and her dogs. She also enjoyed reading and cooking. Nora was known for being an amazing cook and for her strawberry rhubarb pies. She also enjoyed playing games with her family. Most importantly, Nora loved her family.

To cherish her memory, Nora leaves her children: Sandy (David) O'Brien, Susan (Jim) Ward, Brenda Bell, Theodore Warthen, Nora (Jan) Opfer, Paula (Thomas) Smith, and Larry (Diane) Warthen; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Gloria Warthen. 

Nora was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry, two sons: David and Richard Warthen; one grandson Richard Warthen Jr.; her sister, Faye Friar; and her son-in-law, Dorsey Cole.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 1:30 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home starting at 11:00 am. Officiating is Pastor Shannon Scott. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
