August 16, 1947 – July 31, 2024

Nancy Lee Rice, age 76 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Fountainview of Monroe Nursing Home, after a long battle with cancer.

Born August 16, 1947 in Monroe. She was the daughter of the late Green Jr. and Shirley Maxine (Moses) Hubbard. Nancy graduated from Monroe High School in 1965.

Nancy met and married the love of her life: Jack M. Rice on December 23, 1967. They raised a family of three children and spent over 22 wonderful years together before Jack sadly passed away in 1989.

Nancy worked for several years as a Headstart Preschool Teacher, followed by many years as a children’s librarian at the Monroe County Library System before retiring. She was a snowbird and enjoyed going down to her Florida home during the winter months.

In her free time, Nancy was an avid reader and she enjoyed listening to all types of music. She liked traveling with her partner, Rich, and had many adventures with each other. Nancy was also very competitive when playing card games with her friends. Most importantly, she loved spending quality time with her family. Nancy will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.

Beloved mother of Craig (Victoria) Rice and Kathleen (Robert Bergren) Rice. Loving companion of Richard Sanborn. Dearest grandmother of Johnna (Jason) Schultz. Great grandmother of Mila Schultz. Dear sister of Mary Lou (Robert) Anderson, Anna (Lloyd) Slaughter, and Richard (Elizabeth) Hubbard. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by husband: Jack Rice; and son: Kevin Rice.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial gathering on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home from 3 pm until the time of service starting at 7 pm. Rev. Ron Morgan will Officiate. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Nancy are suggested to Oaks of Righteousness Church.
