Morris L. Newman Jr., age 94 a lifelong resident of Monroe, passed away peacefully at 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Brookdale Senior Living, Monroe. He had been in declining health since November.

Born December 12, 1929 in Monroe, he is the son of the late Morris L. and Lillian (Fountain) Newman. Morris attended Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1947. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1950 until 1954. Morris married Lillie Austin on June 30, 1954 and Mary Smith on June 26, 1996. Sadly, both of his wives preceded him in death on October 1, 1990 and January 21, 2017, respectively.

Morris worked for Tecumseh Products for forty-three years as a supervisor, retiring in 1996. He was a Life-member of V.F.W. Post 1138. Morris enjoyed Big Band music and small game and deer hunting. Morris and his wife Mary were competitive square dancers, traveling to many states for competitions. For many years he and his wife Mary were avid walkers and could often be found walking around Monroe or at the Mall of Monroe.

To cherish his memory, Morris leaves one son, Jason Newman of Monroe; three grandchildren: Chad (Amy) Newman, Jennifer (Carson) Poupard, and Cameron Newman; and five greatgrandchildren: Brooks and Briggs Poupard, and Ayden, Ryder, and Dylan Newman. 

In addition to his parents and wives, Morris was preceded in death by three sons: David, Michael, and Rodney Newman; three siblings: James Newman, Mildred Smith, and Dolly “Clara” Burns.

Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161. Military honors will be rendered at 11 a.m.  Friday, September 6, 2024, at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Services will be under the auspices of V.F.W. Post 1138, Monroe.
