Michael “Mike” Edmondson

April 8, 1950 – February 22, 2025

Michael “Mike” Kent Edmondson, age 74 of Monroe, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on February 22, 2025, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. He had been in declining health for two months.

Born April 8, 1950 in Monroe, he was the son of the late Benjamin “Clyde” and Juanita (Henegar) Edmondson. He attended Jefferson High School, graduating with the class of 1968, joining the United States Army the same year. Serving with the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge he began working for Crysler Corporation until his retirement in 2008. Mike Married the love of his life, April Szerszen, on May 8, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mike enjoyed golfing, trips to Vegas and going to Toledo Raceway Park. He was an avid fan of football, baseball, hockey, and Nascar. Mike’s favorite vacations were to Tennessee to visit family and play marathon card games. Every Wednesday you would find Mike out to dinner somewhere with his good friend, Rick Dietz. Most of all he enjoyed spending time at home, relaxing and enlisting family members in highly competitive Yahtzee and card games.

To cherish his memory, Mike leaves his loving wife, April Edmondson; son, Michael Edmondson II; daughters: Cheryl Callahan, Julie Standifer, and Tabatha (Will) Navarre – who he considered a daughter; two sisters, Blenda “Sue” Eisinger and Paula (Vince) Bondy; and sister-in-law, Kelly Lucio. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Michael Callahan, A.J. Standifer, Christa Callahan, Nicholas Shinevarre, Shane Braden, and Cashton and Maci Navarre - who he considered grandchildren. Three great-grandchildren, with one on the way and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Roxanne Emerson; father-in-law, Richard Szerszen; and brother-in-law, Rick Szerszen.

Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until services celebrating his life begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161. Rev. Harold Raines will officiate. Military honors will be under the auspices of VFW Post 1138, Monroe. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow.
