Michael Patrick Sweeney, age 69 of Monroe, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the ProMedica Regional Hospital of Monroe.

Born September 15, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio. He was the son of the late Jim and Sue (Wensinger) Sweeney. Mike graduated from Start High School in Toledo in 1974.

Mike first started working for Chrysler Automotive at the Jeep Plant in Toledo as a Lineman. After 28 years of dedicated service, he retired. He then went to work at Cox Trucking for about 10 years.

Mike met the love of his life, Joyce Strahm, while at a dance club. They later got married on May 7, 1983 at a Church in Toledo. Together they raised a family of two daughters and spent over forty-one wonderful years together.

Mike was a member of Stewart Road Church of God and led a Christian life. In his younger years, he enjoyed working out. Mike liked to go fishing on his boat, play golf and softball in his free time. He also adored being on his Harley Motorcycle going for rides with Joyce on the back. Mike was always there to help anyone in need. He will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.

Beloved husband of Joyce Sweeney. Loving father of Jenny (Patrick) Fitzpatrick and Jackie (Robert) Cox. Dearest grandfather of Jessica Lashley, Autumn Lashley, Shannon Cox, and Lucas Cox. Dear brother of Johnny Sweeney and Laurie Nunez.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by sister, Sheryl Sweeney-Beale.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial gathering on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 South Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Services celebrating his life will begin at 6 pm.  Officiating is Pastor Roy Southerland.
