Michael Garth Slatinsky
January 10, 1958 – November 16, 2023
Michael Garth Slatinsky, age 65, of Frenchtown Township, passed peacefully Thursday, November 16, 2023 in his home with his loving family by his side. Garth fought the brave battle against pancreatic cancer for six months.
Garth was born January 10, 1958 in Detroit, MI from the union of Edward and Margaret (Morin) Slatinsky. He graduated from Ida High School and furthered his education to obtain his welding and building certificates. He married his true love, Diane MacKinnon, on December 2, 1994 at the Sawyer House in Monroe, MI.
Garth was a member of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and worked through Carpenter Local Union #687 Detroit, MI. In his spare time, Garth enjoyed fishing, walking in the woods, and on the beaches. Garth adored spending time with his family, watching his son play sports, driving his girls to exhibit their horses and watching them perform at the River Raisin Center of the Arts, where he had used his construction and carpentry talents to rebuild the stage. Garth was very active volunteering for Stepping Stones Therapeutic Riding. Around the farm Garth earned the name “Mr. Safety”, for always sharing his advice. He was well known for bringing the horses their favorite treats out to the barn. However, his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandsons playing out in the yard.
Garth is survived by his loving wife, Diane; father, Edward; son, Daryll (Holly Spice) Yarger of Temperance, MI; daughters, Morgan Slatinsky-Hurd and Mackynze Slatinsky both of Newport, MI; sisters, Lynn (Norb) Shiets of Fremont, OH and Karen (Barry) Bezeau of Monroe, MI; and grandsons, Tucker Hurd, Mason Hurd, and Gabe Weaver.
Sadly, he is preceded in death by his mother and brother, Jimmy.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023 beginning at 1pm to 3pm. A celebration of Garth’s life will start at 3pm with Rev. Larry Detruf officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials may be made to Stepping Stones Therapeutic Riding or River Raisin Centre for the Arts.
