Merrilee Simmons
May 18, 1954 – July 29, 2025
Merrilee “Miya” Delores Simmons, age 71 of Monroe, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at home surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Born on May 18, 1954 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Miya was the daughter of the late William and Agnes (Mackey) Little. Miya graduated from Winnacunnet High School.
Miya lived in many places throughout her lifetime, including Key West, FL., Governor’s Island (NYC) NY., Chicopee Mass., Kalamazoo MI. and Columbia TN before settling in Monroe Mi. No matter where she went, she made lasting friendships and created “home” wherever she went. Miya was a vibrant and creative woman who carved many paths. In the early 1980’s she launched Balloon Bonanzo, a mobile customized balloon and greeting delivery service in Boston Mass. Miya also created the Kalamazoo Collective, a lifestyle magazine that highlighted the arts, culture and fine dining in and around the West Michigan area. Among other careers, Miya’s gift of service is where her heart felt its fullest. Working as a food and beverage Manager on and off during her working years. As she transitioned to staying at home, her kitchen became her service as she welcomed everyone into her home to feed their souls. The kitchen table became the center of her circle where conversation and food fueled her happiness.
In her later years, she became friends and roommates with her co-mother-in-law: Barb Hosler. The mother in law to her youngest daughter, Elizabeth. They lived together for two and a half years. While they had opposite personalities, it’s what attracted them to each other who would eventually become two mom in laws who became family.
Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her six grandkids were her world and purpose in life. Miya treasured being a grandma and everything that came with it. She will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.
Beloved mother of Kelly (Mike) Tiddes, Chad (Terry) Dymon, Maureen (Kevin) Dymon, and Elizabeth (Andy) Hosler. Loving grandmother of Jacob, Stella, & Aiden Dymon, Logan Tiddes, and Henry & Fritz Hosler. Dear sister of Bill (Kathy) Little and Eileen (Bill) Goodwin.
In addition to her parents, Miya was preceded in death by brother: Dougie Little.
