Merl Robertson

Merl Robertson, age 88 of Monroe, passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Born July 29, 1937, in Monroe. Merl was the son of the late James Marion and Maggie (Ellison) Robertson. Merl graduated from Monroe High School in 1955.
Merl met and married the love of his life, Tina Imogene Stepp on March 21, 1959, at the Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. They raised a family of two children and spent over 57 wonderful years together before Imogene passed away in 2016.
Merl first worked as a Merchant Marine, transporting cargo by boat. He then became a Pipefitter at General Motors and was a part of the Pipefitters Union Local 671 of Monroe. He then retired after 30 years in 1989. After retirement, he helped his wife with the adult foster care program.
Merl was a long-time member of the Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. In his younger years, he loved playing baseball. Merl was also an avid hunter and went fishing when the season was right. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Beloved father of Connie Florey. Loving grandfather of Prof. Philip Zaborowski, Jacob Florey, and Cody Florey. Dear brother of Christine Robertson.
In addition to his parents, Merl was preceded in death by wife, Imogene Robertson; son, Merl Damon Robertson; siblings, Clayton Robertson, Ann Davis, Geraldine Bramcheau, and Edith Keene; as well as a son-in-law, James Florey.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home. Merl will later be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery, Monroe.
