MaryLou L. Hayter

July 4, 1936 – March 27, 2023

 

MaryLou Lillian Hayter, age 86 of Monroe, went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2023, at ProMedica Regional Hospital of Monroe.

 

Born July 4, 1936, in Monroe. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Vajdak) Godfried. MaryLou graduated from Monroe High School in 1954.

 

MaryLou married the love of her life: John Hayter Sr. on December 4, 1954 at Grace Lutheran Church. MaryLou was a loving homemaker to her husband and four children. MaryLou and John spent over 55 wonderful years together until John’s passing in 2009.

 

MaryLou was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church of Monroe. She was a part of the Red Hat Society as well as the Ladies Aide at church. In her free time, you could find her up north in Alpena fishing with her family. Most importantly she loved spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.

 

Beloved mother of John (Wenying) Hayter Jr. of Canton, Craig (Jill) Hayter of Temperance, Casandra (Jeffery) Gilliam of Monroe, and Mathew (Maryann) Hayter of St. Louis, MO. Loving grandmother of Jinting Hayter, Jayden Hayter, Jocelyn Hayter, Craig (Julie) Hayter, Justin (Beth) Hayter, Ryliegh Gilliam, Marisa Gilliam, Garrett (Allison) Gilliam, Benjamin (Elizabeth) Hayter, and Sabrina (Keith) Kettner. Great grandmother of James, Anna, Brendan, Krista, Aurora (Sara Hall), Abel, Zoe, Aletheia, Sophia, and Lazarus, with another on the way.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, MaryLou was preceded in death by husband: John Hayter Sr.; sister: Arlene Downey, and grandson: Jacob Hayter.

 

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Rupp Funeral Home from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe starting at 11 am. Officiating is Pastor of the church: Rev. Mark Witte. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
