Mary Rowena Gilbert, age 75 of Monroe, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at ProMedica Regional Hospital of Toledo.

Born September 25, 1945, in Tazewell, Tennessee. She was one of nine children of the late Bruce and Hallie (Rae) Clark. After school, she moved up to the Monroe area with her sister.

Mary met and married the love of her life: Joseph T. Gilbert in September of 1984 in Jefferson City, TN. Together they enjoyed traveling with one another to places like Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, Tennessee, and Florida. Sadly, Joe passed in 2010, spending over 26 wonderful years together.

Mary enjoyed being outside with nature. She liked to go on short road trips to Crosswinds Marsh and would watch the birds and animals whenever she could. She enjoyed going camping with the trailer. Mary was known for her famous strawberry cheesecake, that everyone enjoyed however no one made it like her. Mary was an animal lover, but she especially had a special bond with her fur baby, Duke.

Most importantly, Mary loved being around her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids. She was a selfless woman who would do anything for anyone in need. Mary will be greatly missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.

Beloved mother of Dennis (Lynn) Lynch, Mary (Eric) Goss, and Michael Lynch. Loving grandmother of Rhandie (Alx) Marsee, Hailey (Sean Sandoval) Lynch, Wesley (Jessica Randolph) Lynch, Faith (Phil Hollingsworth) Lynch, William Lynch, Quinton (Carissa) Richardson, Natasha Richardson, and Jakob (Laura) Richardson. Great-grandmother of Spencer, Audriana, Lily, Makoa, Jessa, Barrett, Conner, Parker, Ellee, Richard, Isabel, Sofia, Naima, Bentlee, Kingslee, Ayden, and Cameron.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by siblings: Milas Clark, Dewey Clark, Roy Clark, Nellie Russell, Lertie Brewer, Trula Miller, Dorothy Evans, and Beulah Cook.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home starting at 12 noon. Burial will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Mary are suggested to the Monroe County Humane Society.
