Mary Gerweck Obituary

Mary M. Gerweck

September 21, 1930 – June 19, 2024

Mary M. Gerweck, age 93, a lifelong resident of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the Alice Lorraine Care Center.

Mary was born September 21, 1930, to Albert and Elsie (Schneider) Mentel. In 1948, Mary graduated from Monroe High School.

Mary met and married the love of her life: Warren J. Gerweck on November 2, 1963, at St. Joseph Rectory Church by Father Rosen. They spent over 50 wonderful years together before Warren sadly preceded her in death on December 19, 2013.

For 28 years, Mary worked for Consolidated Paper Company as a clerk, before retiring. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling and walking. Remarkably, Mary walked the Mackinac Bridge 22 times.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mercy Memorial Hospital Guild, VFW Erie Post 3925 Ladies’ Auxiliary, and a life member of DAV Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren, as well as three sisters: Isabelle Lanphere, Matilda Sancraint, and Donna Waters.

To cherish her memory, Mary leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church from 11 am to 12 noon. The funeral service will start at 12 noon at Church. Officiating is Pastor Greg Sitzman. Burial will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery.
