Mary Jane Burgess, age 74 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at home surrounded by family.

Born May 22, 1946 in Monroe. She is the daughter of Celestino and Sulema (Wells) Hernandez. Mary met the love of her life: Bruce Burgess. They got married on June 10, 1977 in Monroe. They raised a family of five children and spent over 44 wonderful years together. Together they enjoyed traveling and camping with one another.

Mary worked for Contract Service Group in Monroe as a crew manager for many years. She then retired from Ford Motor Company as a laborer after 15 years of service. Mary was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mary was also a part of the Girl Scouts Troop as a troop assistant when her children were younger.

In her free time, Mary enjoyed crafting as well as scrapbooking. Most importantly, Mary liked spending her quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren-they were her world. To spoil and cherish. She will always be known as the head matriarch in the family, the women you could go to with anything. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones.

Beloved wife of Bruce Burgess. Loving mother of Theresa (Ben) Layne, Belinda (Dave) Richardson, Brian (Deretta) Burgess, Beth Day, and Barry Burgess. Dearest grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Fernando Hernandez and Oscar Hernandez.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by siblings: Faustino “Poncho” Hernandez, Tony Hernandez, and Eloise Hernandez.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 2:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2021 starting at 11 am at Rupp Funeral Home.  Officiating is Fr. Giancarlo Ghezzi. Burial to Roselawn Memorial Park for family only.
