Marvin Edwin Martin
January 25, 1940 - August 18, 2024
Marvin Edwin Martin was born January 25, 1940, in Detroit, MI. Marvin was the youngest of nine children born from the union of the late David Joshua and the late Sally Pearl (Johnson) Martin.
Born and raised in Detroit, he graduated from Northwestern High School in 1958. Marvin proudly joined the US Navy and bravely served his country for four years as a Boilermaker.
In 1962, he married his soulmate and partner in every sense, Sharon Foster. During their marriage of 59 years, they were blessed with four children; three sons: Marvin, Marlon, and Maury, and a daughter: Marla. Marvin’s devotion as a family man was evident in the quality time he spent with them. He moved his family from Detroit to Carleton in 1974 to get away from the city life. The rural area was a great attraction for family from out of town to come visit, some even staying weeks at a time. One thing everyone expected to hear, “If you wanna eat, you gotta work!” - Marvin's favorite line.
After his time in the Navy, he began his professional career at Ford Motor Company. He was a dedicated employee and worked hard providing for his family. He put in many hours at the River Rouge and Monroe Plants as a well-respected Maintenance Supervisor. Marvin retired from Ford Motor Company after 30+ years in the industry.
Throughout his life, Marvin remained very active by embracing his hobbies and interests. He loved to be outdoors surrounded by God’s creation. He enjoyed jogging, cycling, gardening, fishing, and traveling. He and Sharon loved to go on cruises, but their most memorable vacation was a trip to Egypt. Marvin was also known to play cards with family and friends, especially Hand Over Foot and Pinochle. He was an active member of the AMVETS at the VFW Post 1138 from 2010-2016. Marvin valued his community and was an avid supporter of events and fundraisers such as lotto ticket sales, school auctions, and fish fry's held for St. Patrick School in Carleton, where his grandchildren attended grade school.
Marvin Edwin Martin, 84, of Carleton, MI, passed away peacefully at Monroe Promedica Regional Hospital on August 18, 2024. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Marvin, Marlon (Rita), Maury (Jennifer), and Marla Martin; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren (with two more on the way); brother: Curtis Martin; sister-in-law: Janice Sims; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his dear wife, Sharon (Foster) Martin; parents; and siblings: Emerson Martin, David Martin, Adrena Clopton, Elizabeth Sullivan, Albert Martin, Lauretta Seldon, and Dorothy Ball. To honor his wishes, cremation has taken place.
